Head coach Emery has now decided to consult with members of his squad over whether Xhaka can continue as captain, having met with the 80-cap international on Monday, before making a final decision.
Xhaka is a hugely popular member of the Gunners dressing room, with fears of a player revolt against Emery if the Spaniard strips the Swiss midfielder of the captaincy after the Gunners boss slated his actions on Sunday.
