Sky Sports pundit Phil Thompson has paid Tottenham Hotspur huge compliments ahead of their Premier League showdown with Liverpool on Sunday afternoon.
What’s he said, then?
Spurs travel to Anfield with a chance to further derail the title challenge of the Reds this weekend in what will be a huge encounter for both sides.
Mauricio Pochettino’s men themselves have plenty to play for rather than just hurting the aspirations of their “top-six” rivals, three points would keep them in prime position for the top four, staying ahead of fourth-place Arsenal.
Here’s what Thompson had to say to Sky Sports about the next opponents of his beloved Liverpool:
“Spurs are always a top side. I think everyone loves the way they play the game, the way they love to build-up and they have got a top-class manager who likes to change things.
“Spurs are still a dangerous side at any time. They may have lost three of the last four but you know them coming to Anfield, they may not be going for the title, but they need to consolidate to play in the Champions League because they need it in that magnificent new stadium of theirs. They are going to be fighting for those places so it doesn’t make things any easier for Liverpool.
“I’m expecting a massive game. They have big players and the nucleus of this wonderful England side is based around Tottenham players so Liverpool are going to have to be at their best on Sunday.”
Bang on, Phil
Whilst the claim that a badly out-of-form Tottenham could do the Premier League leaders some damage on Merseyside is a bold one, Thompson has got it bang on.
The on-field fortunes may currently not be the best in north London, but things are plain sailing off of it as a final date for the stadium move has been set and excitement is high about a possible UEFA Champions League win.

With a pivotal run of fixtures coming up and perhaps a glint of fantastically unlikely second charge at the title in their minds, the Lilywhites will turn up in Liverpool motivated and hungry to find some form, don’t bet against them causing a shock.
